Sandbox Mode - Survive The Alien Tracing
Devlog # 2 - Sandbox Mode:
Today, I’m excited to talk to you about a new mode coming to our game, Survive: The Alien Tracing. We’re just starting to introduce it now, as we’ve been finishing up some of the mechanics.
It’s something we’ve been thinking about from the beginning, but we weren’t sure if we could implement it, so we didn’t present it when we launched our Steam page. Now, with most of the mechanics and some maps completed, we’re finally ready to reveal it.
This game is turning out to be bigger and more ambitious than originally planned, and we know fans of sandbox games and open-world survival and resource management will love it.
SANDBOX MODE:
Survive: The Alien Tracing will not only feature a STORY MODE, where you’ll uncover the mysteries of the alien race (The Fallen of Elun) and search for Miles’ son, the game’s protagonist, but it will also offer a SANDBOX MODE where you’ll have to survive in a world overrun by zombies and other dangerous environments.
This mode comes with its own unique features and will be completely separate from the story mode.
FEATURES:
- Objective: Survive as long as possible, either in a shelter or as a nomad, exploring different areas of the city.
-
No main storyline or objectives: The game doesn't have a linear narrative or mandatory goals to follow.
-
Zombie resurrection: Zombies will revive as long as they are defeated outside the player's shelter.
-
Additional bars: In addition to the health bar, there will be hunger and thirst meters.
-
Object storage: Items can be stored in chests or cabinets.
-
Crafting: You will be able to craft weapons and other useful items, such as decorations or shelter upgrades.
-
Cooking: You’ll have the ability to cook using various recipes.
-
Food spoilage: Food will spoil over time if not stored in a refrigerator.
-
Day/night cycle and weather system: There will be a day and night cycle along with variable weather conditions. There will be no seasons.
-
Shelter management: You can reinforce your shelter's security by placing boards on windows or changing the lock on the main door.
-
Sleeping: You will be able to sleep to regain energy.
-
Zombie attacks: Shelters can be attacked by hordes of zombies, meaning you will never be completely safe.
-
Hygiene system: The character will need to shower occasionally; otherwise, their bad smell might prevent them from entering certain shops.
-
Shops and NPCs: The city will feature various NPCs, from merchants to thieves or swindlers. Not everyone is trustworthy.
-
Business hours: Shops will have set opening and closing times. Some may close permanently if their owners are killed by zombies.
-
Other enemies: There will be other types of enemies, different from zombies, including some bosses.
-
Mining system: You will be able to extract minerals to craft objects and weapons.
-
Tree cutting and fruit gathering: Some trees can be chopped down, and their fruits can be collected.
Death: The player can die in many ways, including starvation, thirst, poisoning, radiation, bleeding, alien encounters, lack of oxygen, electrocution, fire, and more.
-
Swimming: The player can swim underwater and increase their oxygen capacity.
-
Collectibles: There will be a variety of collectible items, from jewelry to artifacts of unknown origin. Some will provide unique survival advantages, while others can be sold.
-
Volatile economy: At launch, there will be two cities, each with a different economic system. Some NPCs will have more money than others, allowing you to sell more items to them.
-
Business closures: NPCs may decide to close their businesses permanently. Others may offer discounts or raise their prices depending on the situation.
The player will explore various environments to collect resources and items that will aid in their survival and progression.
Now, I'm sharing some screenshots of this new game mode:
We’re eager to showcase a new action trailer with these new features, but we need to hurry up and prepare a new version of the demo for the upcoming Steam Next Fest, which will be held in early October.
We hope to see you there! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us!
